By Colorelaxation January 24, 2022

Once you are done with your diamond painting, finishing and sealing the diamond painting is one of the most critical stages of the process. Do you have to seal your diamond painting? Well, if you want it to last for the coming years, you must know how to seal diamond art painting.

Most of the hobbyists consider applying sealer to the painting optional but doing so will allow you to keep the diamonds locked and preserved in their place so you can frame or hang the painting as long as you want.

How to Seal your Finished Diamond Painting?

For the typical methods to seal a diamond painting, artists usually go with spray-on or brush-on sealers. There are some other recommendations too for a better finish and glitters. So, let’s see how and why should you seal for diamond painting seal a diamond painting. Here are 3 easy steps to seal a finished diamond painting:

Step 1: Make sure that all Diamonds are in the right places

Ensure that all the painting is dry. The last step of the diamond painting process should be always for a quick review and check. In addition, make sure that you have done a thorough cleaning of your brush and all the tools you used to complete the drawing.

Step 2: Apply Sealer

Applying the sealer is actually pretty easy, directly spray or paint on the backside of your unfinished diamond paintings then let it dry for several minutes or hours before hanging or placing your pieces in the boxes.

The sealer will permeate into the canvas and protect every single diamond in its place. However, if you want to achieve a glossy finish, I highly recommend applying at least 2-3 layers of sealer to obtain desired results.

Step 3: Let it dry

Step 3 is where you will seal every drawing, and after that, you can also do your last inspection to be sure that everything is in the right places, and all the diamonds are sealed properly.

What are the Options for Sealing your Diamond Painting?

The selection of the right seal for diamond painting is an important step that is overlooked by many. The wrong sealant will not only cause the beads to fall from their original spots but will also cause a yellow layer that seems weird on your artwork. As the best seal for diamond painting, you have two main options:

1- Spray-on Sealants

Using spray-on sealants is one of the fastest and easiest methods to preserve your diamond painting. While applying a spray-on sealant can be done quicker than brushing it on, you need to make sure that you are well protected with gloves, masks, and other clothing that protect your skin from chemical reactions.

If you want to achieve a shiny finish on your diamond painting, this may not be the best option. The reason is that the spray-on sealers will cause puddles of coatings on top of your paintings causing the diamonds to cover in areas that they shouldn’t. This can also cause a yellow layer appearance on your artwork so we don’t recommend using this method for professional work.

2- Brush-on Sealants

Brush-on sealants are the best choice for professional diamond artworks. The brush-on sealers will quickly penetrate into the canvas and paint much more evenly than spray-on sealers. In addition, once you apply the sealer, you can quickly wipe out any puddles or extra sealer that can cause a yellowing appearance on your paintings.

Conclusion

There are several different ways to go about sealing your finished diamond painting. While this is something that is not necessary, it will protect the beauty of your work for longer periods of time and keep it safe from dust or other imperfections on your painting.
